Water Polo

Water polo is a team water sport that combines elements of swimming, basketball, and soccer. It is played in a pool where two teams, each consisting of seven players (six field players and one goalkeeper), compete to score goals by throwing a ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played in four quarters, and teams utilize swimming skills, teamwork, and strategy to navigate the water and outmaneuver opponents. Players must also be proficient in treading water, often using a technique called the eggbeater kick to stay above the water while maintaining their energy. Water polo is characterized by its physicality, requiring players to be strong swimmers and adept at handling the ball in a dynamic and often aggressive environment. Matches can be fast-paced and require endurance, communication, and tactical awareness. The sport is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) internationally and is featured in the Olympic Games.
