Juneteenth

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated in the United States on June 19th, marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved individuals were now free, in accordance with President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. The name combines „June“ and „nineteenth,“ reflecting the date of the celebration. Juneteenth represents a significant moment in American history, symbolizing freedom, equality, and the ongoing struggle for civil rights. In 2021, it was designated a federal holiday, emphasizing its importance in recognizing and honoring the contributions of African Americans to the nation.
